Walk into a room and your gaze soon moves to the books. From a collection of heartwarming recipes from your mum, saved many birthdays ago, to a novel enjoyed on a memorable beach holiday, or the reference book that helped your career, each one has a special place in our lives.
But the reality is that only a lucky few have room for a home library. So, once read, even our favourite titles are often left to gather dust, taking up precious space in a world where storage is often at a premium.
So, you decide to move some books on, only to find that your local charity shops are far from keen to take them, while facebook marketplace delivers timewasters who don't turn up and then ghost you.
Searching online, you excitedly find book-buying services that look promising. But after downloading their apps and being asked to scan your books' barcodes, you realise they are only interested in cherry-picking your more popular items, rejecting the rest and demanding that you carefully box and pack a significant number before they agree to collect, leaving you with all the rejects which can be significant.
With books not allowed in household recycling bins, your only option seems to be a trip to the tip, or is it...?
No right thinking person wants to send books to landfill, which is why requesting a free book collection from The Sussex Book Collector is such a good idea.
We don't cherry-pick your books. Whether they are old or relatively new, as long as you have at least 25 books to dispose of, we'll collect them for free and promise that we'll do everything we can to find them new homes.
Our target is to get at least 80% of collected books into the hands of new readers. For the remaining few that really have come to the end of their life, we'll recycle them responsibly, so that little to nothing goes to waste, allowing you to declutter with a sustainable, clear conscience.
And it gets better... If you can bag or box 50 or more books for us to collect, we'll also pay you 10p per book.
